PCX (standing for Personal Computer eXchange) is considered to be one of the most common bitmap image formats used on the DOS/Windows platform.

The PCX format supports up to 24-bit color images, 8-bit grayscale and indexed color images. PCX is currently being used by different fax and scanning apps, although it is an old format and it was superseded by JPEG, PNG, and GIF.

Despite being an obsolete image format, there are still some apps that can open and access PCX files.
